The Kuang Si Falls, sometimes spelled Kuang Xi or known as Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three levelled waterfall about 29 kilometres (18 mi) south of Luang Prabang. These waterfalls are a favourite side trip for tourists in Luang Prabang. The falls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside. These lead to the main fall with a 60 metres (200 ft) drop.

They are accessed via a trail to a left of the falls. The water flows in to a turquoise blue pool before continuing downstream. The many cascades that result are typical of waterfalls.

The locals charge an entrance fee of 20,000 kip to visit the site, but it is well maintained with walkways and bridges to guide the visitor. (All Manifa Travel’s tours include the entrance fee)

Kuang Si waterfall the rescue centre cares for a number of Asiatic Black Bears that have been rescued by the Lao authorities from the illegal wildlife trade. They are supported by Free The Bears Fund Inc. (an Australian charity) and does not charge an entrance fee.

KUANG SI BUTTERFLY PARK is only 300 meters before the entrance to Kuang Si waterfalls. the Butterfly Park is the first butterfly conservation and exhibit of its kind in Luang Prabang.

It was recently initiated in early 2014 with the mission to create a research center for studying and publishing information on butterflies found across Laos, the conservation of plants, and environmental issues in the country.
