KUANG SI WATERFALLS

KUANG SI WATERFALLS

The Kuang Si Falls, sometimes spelled Kuang Xi or known as Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three levelled waterfall about 29 kilometres (18 mi) south of Luang Prabang. These waterfalls are a favourite side trip for tourists in Luang Prabang. The falls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside. These lead to the main fall with a 60 metres (200 ft) drop.

They are accessed via a trail to a left of the falls. The water flows in to a turquoise blue pool before continuing downstream. The many cascades that result are typical of waterfalls.

The locals charge an entrance fee of 20,000 kip to visit the site, but it is well maintained with walkways and bridges to guide the visitor. (All Manifa Travel’s tours include the entrance fee)

Kuang Si waterfall the rescue centre cares for a number of Asiatic Black Bears that have been rescued by the Lao authorities from the illegal wildlife trade. They are supported by Free The Bears Fund Inc. (an Australian charity) and does not charge an entrance fee.

PAK OU CAVES

PAK OU CAVES

Near Pak Ou (mouth of the Nam Ou river) the Tham Ting (lower cave) and the Tham Theung (upper cave) are caves overlooking the Mekong River, 25 km to the north of Luang Prabang, Laos. They are a group of two caves on the west side of the Mekong river, about two hours upstream from the centre of Luang Prabang, and have become well known by tourists.

The caves are noted for their miniature Buddha sculptures. Hundreds of very small and mostly damaged wooden Buddhist figures are laid out over the wall shelves. They take many different positions, including meditation, teaching, peace, rain, and reclining (nirvana).

Manifa Travel daily operates a long tail slow boat from Luang Prabang to Pak Ou. We also offer adventure tours including Kayak to Pak Ou Caves.
