You will be picked up at your accommodation at your convenient time between 8:00 am and 12:00 am then, we head straight to the pier to embark the long tail slow boat and head off on the mighty Mekong river.

Enjoy the many views from the water, witness rural laos, pass by local villages, fishermen, children and soak up the scenes of daily life by the river.

After the first hour and a bit, the boat takes its first short stop at the popular Ban Xang Hai, also known as ‘the whiskey village’. Here you visit the village, see the process of making Lao Lao, the country’s beloved rice whiskey and taste the fresh local delights. Why not pick up a couple of bottles for later!

We continue by boat travelling slowly along the Mekong in the direction of the glorious Pak Ou Caves. We arrive at a small boat landing dock where stairs lead you straight up to the cave. These limestone Buddhist caves have been a place of worship for thousands of years, over this time a collection of Buddha statues and idols have filled these spiritual natural caves.

Afterwards, we stop at Manifa Elephant Camp and have a full buffet lunch at the restaurant overlooking the Mekong river. Return to the Luang Prabang boat pier and transfer to your hotel.

Your tour experience begins with a transportation service pick up from your accommodation between 8:15 am – 9:00 am  then we head off our way and have a short stop at  the popular Ban Xang Hai Village, also known as ‘the whiskey village’. Here you can see the process of making lao lao, the country’s beloved rice whiskey and for some maybe even an early morning sample!

From there we are less than 2kms / 10 minute drive from the 110 hectares property and home to 20 elephants at Manifa Elephant Camp. 

After a few important introductions and a brief orientation, you will get straight into interacting with the Manifa elephants and start “FULL DAY – MAHOUT BASIC PROGRAM“ – get used to being close to and comfortable with one of the 17 elephants.

We enjoy a beautiful buffet style lunch at the restaurant – overlooking the Mekong river.

At about 1:30 PM, we resume Mahout program another 1 hour. Afterwards, we take a private boat travelling slowly along the Mekong in the direction of the glorious Pak Ou Caves. We arrive at a small boat landing dock where stairs lead you straight up to the cave. These limestone Buddhist caves have been a place of worship for thousands of years, over this time a collection of Buddha statues and idols have filled these spiritual natural caves.

After visiting caves, going down the river to Luang Prabang and enjoy sunset in a boat.  Upon arrival at the boat pier,  transferring to your hotel by car.

EXPERIENCES

Pak Ou Caves are well known as Tham Ting or Ting Cave, located on the riverbank, about 25km from Luang Prabang. The cave is very beautiful and filled with thousands of Buddha images and has long served as a pilgrimage site for all kinds of people, including members of the former royal family.

A unique little village on the banks of the Mekong River. Ban Xang Hai is famous for their handicraft products like distilling and selling whisky, hand woven fabric and jewelry.
