The Nam Ou is the largest tributary of the Mekong in Luang Prabang that carves a dramatic path through the mountainous landscapes of northern Laos. A beautiful view of the Nam Ou River valley surrounded by steep limestone cliffs offers the most exciting kayaking. The following tours combine the spectacular landscape of the Nam Ou River with a visit to the renowned Pak Ou Caves and paddling on the mighty Mekong.

Pickup from your accommodation or  Manifa Travel office at 8:30 am and depart from city at 9:00 am km by Minivan. Starting Kayak on the Nam Ou River at 10:00 am from Ban Pak Ou or Ban Hat Kho (depending on the level and physical strength) We enjoy a breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside and see a wonderful nature built limestone cliffs called Pha Aen.

Upon arrival at the confluence of two rivers, Pak Ou, we visit the famous Pak Ou Caves. We will explore the Buddha caves with guide about 30 min. Afterwards, we start the second course of the kayak on the Mekong River. We paddle down for 30 minutes until we arrive at Manifa Elephant Camp.

We enjoy buffet lunch at the restaurant overlooking the Mekong river. You can take a shower and relax in the garden.  After Lunch we drive back to Luang Prabang. Along the way, we stop at  Ban Xang hai, where the local rice wine is produced.  At about 2:00 pm, we arrive at your accommodation or city center.

We depart from your accommodation or Manifa Travel office at 08:30 am by Minivan to Ban Hat Kor about 1 hour. From there we start kayak on the Nam Ou River. We enjoy a breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside and see a wonderful nature built limestone cliffs called Pha Aen. We stop for a delicious picnic lunch at around noon.

After lunch and taking a relaxing break and swim we carry onward once again. We continue paddling in a calmer section of the Nam Ou and then get to the confluence of the Nam Ou and Mekong rivers, Pak Ou. 

Upon arrival at Pak Ou, we visit the famous Pak Ou Caves – two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by devoted pilgrims. Exploring the caves about 30 minutes, we start the second course of the kayaking on the Mekong River. We paddle down the Mekong for 30 minutes until we ended our Kayak at Manifa Elephant Camp. At about 3:00 - 4:00 PM, we leave for your hotel or city center by minivan. (You can also choose an option to go back to Luang Prabang by sunset downstream cruise trip.)

After lunch break, this adventure destination package takes you to Kuang Si Waterfall – you will have time to explore the three layered Kuang Si Waterfall walk the trails of the nature reserve and swim in the refreshing turquoise water pools and visit the bear rescue center.

Our way back into Luang Prabang we make a stop at Ban Na Uan hmong village where you have the chance to experience Hmong village life, meet some of the local people and see the makings of their traditional embroidery crafts. From here it is time to make our way into town, typically this is between 5:30pm – 6:00pm – drop off location is at the post office on the main street, near the night market or at your accommodation by prior arrangement or on request.

After lunch, we have a few important introductions and a brief orientation about elephant. And then we will get straight into interacting with the manifa elephants and start the mahout training program – get used to being close to and comfortable with one of the 17 elephants – share in the experience of cruelty free riding (optional bareneck or howdah) – join in the snacktime feeding and have the option of splashing around in the water with the elephants during one of their many daily bath time sessions.

At about 4 PM, we start going back to Luang Prabang. (End of Service 4:30-5:30 PM)

Pick up from your accommodation at about 8:30 AM and depart from the center at 9:00 AM and head up the north to explore the beautiful country side. We will stop on our way to visit Ban San Xang Khong village to see expert of mulberry paper making. Then we continue our cycling on road number 13 and have a second stop at Hmong morning market. You'll meet Hmong people comng from hill villages and selling their products. Afterwards, we will see scenic view of the mighty Mekong river and get to Ban Xang Hay Village, also known as Whisky Village. Here you visit the village, see the process of making lao lao, the country’s beloved rice whiskey and taste the fresh local delights. Why not pick up a couple of bottles for later! Another 30 minutes cycling take us to Manifa Elephant Camp. We enjoy a full buffet style lunch @ the Manifa Elephant Camp restaurant – overlooking the mekong river.

After lunch, we'll be transferred to the Nam Ou river and start Kayak at 13:30 (from Ban Pak Ou or Ban Hat Kho, depending on the level and physical strength) We enjoy a breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside and see a wonderful nature built limestone cliffs called Pha Aen.

Upon arrival at the confluence of two rivers, Pak Ou, we visit the famous Pak Ou Caves. We will explore the Buddha caves with guide about 30 min. Afterwards, we start the second course of the kayak on the Mekong River. We paddle down for 30 minutes until we arrive at Manifa Elephant Camp.

At about 4-5 PM, we start going back to Luang Prabang. (End of Service 4:30-5:30 PM)

We can drop you off at the airport on the way back to Luang Prabang except for a tour visiting Kuang Si Falls and having sunset cruise.
